MILBRANDT VINEYARDS
Estates 2006 Petite Sirah, Washington State
Our Estates Petite Sirah comes from our Northridge Vineyard on Eastern Washington's Wahluke Slope. Established in 2006, the Wahluke Slope is a sub-region within the Columbia Valley appellation. Located midway between Seattle and Spokane it is bordered by the Columbia River to the southwest and Hanford Reach National Monument to the east. The climate here is warm enough during the day to fully ripen grapes, yet cool enough at night to ensure bright acids and firm tannins. Northridge is a south-facing site with ancient, well-draining soils. It consistently produces some of our most concentrated and complex wines.
There's dark and then there's Petite Sirah dark. Of all the red wine grapes, Petite Sirah produces some of the blackest, most powerful wines imaginable. The grape, also called Durif, after its discoverer, is a cross between Syrah and the obscure Peloursin variety. While it has virtually disappeared from its birthplace in France, Petite Sirah has enjoyed great success in America for more than a century.
We love what Petite Sirah does in ancient soils of our Northridge Vineyard. The 2006 Estates is saturated with boysenberry, loganberry, raspberry, orange marmalade and vanilla. The palate is dense, bright, lively and well-supported by oak and tannin.
