MILBRANDT VINEYARDS
Estates 2006 Malbec, Washington State

This bottling features Malbec from our Northridge Vineyard in the Wahluke Slope AVA, supplemented by a small amount of Merlot from our Katherine Leone Vineyard. Established in 2006, the Wahluke Slope is a sub-region within the Columbia Valley appellation. Located midway between Seattle and Spokane it is bordered by the Columbia River to the southwest and Hanford Reach National Monument to the east. Northridge is a south-facing site with ancient, well-draining soils. It consistently produces some of our most concentrated and complex wines.

While Malbec originally came from France, where it is the primary grape of Cahors and a minor blender in Bordeaux, these days it is perhaps best known as the signature grape of Argentina. This 2006 marks our first bottling of Malbec, a grape we feel has unlimited potential in Eastern Washington.

Characteristically dark, our 2006 Malbec is ripe, juicy and brimming with black fruit flavors. The aromatics are an intense mix of Bing cherries, jam, blueberries, chocolate, plums and vanilla. The palate is lush, supple and velvety.
